What is your full name? Steve Baskerville aka SteveB. (Yes, I've heard every single joke ever so don't waste your time!
What age are you? 40 this year. I'm going to ride the Sierra Navada Nation Park in Spain this year to celebrate/commiserate hitting the big 40.
Where you live? Originally a Londoner but been living in or around Belfast for the last ten years. I followed a woman here.
What position do you hold in the team? Team Manager & part time Vets racer. Officially I'm not on the team and I'm defo not a DH rider, but I like to have a go from time to time.
How long have you been riding? MTB's since about 1990 so coming 17 years now. My first bike was fully rigid with a rear U brake and canti's on the front. I soon decided that riding a rigid bike off road was daft so started saving for one of those new fangled suspended bikes coming out of the states in the early nineties. In 92 I got a Kona Kilauea with Marzocchi XC500's on the front. In 94 I finally got the bike of my dreams, a GT RTS. I still have the frame hanging up in the shop.
What is your biggest achievement in DH racing? Hitting the podium once or twice in the early days of DH race, c.94. This was back when suspension was in it's infancy and most people race XC on the Saturday then DH on the Sunday, on the same bike! I'd just got the RTS, it was what the DH racers in the states were riding so I figured I'd give it a go. It was the bike that got me those results, nothing to do with skill.
What is your current race bike spec? I don't actually have a race bike yet!
What is your aim for the 2007 season? To get the team the backing they need to win races. I want the boys to be able to push themselves and their bikes as hard as they can without worrying about parts etc.
Go big or go fast? Neither. Surviving will do nowadays.
How many bikes do you have? Personally 3. Two that get ridden regularly and one of my first MTB's that I can't bring myself to part with. I've also half a dozen frames, again real old that I just can't bear to part with. Thru the shop I own loads. Way too many. Wanna buy a bike mister?
What is your favourite course? For racing easy ones (So that would be Scalp). I'd like to get another chance to ride ravensdale as that pushed me beyond my abilities, but I think it's now deceased! Non-racing I like anything that flows with just enough scary stuff to keep me awake.
Who is your favourite artist? Monet.
What is your mountain bike motto? You can never own too many bikes.
